Membership

Application for Membership: 

Please download the application form. The form should be completed and returned by mail or email. 

Please settle the Application Fee by either one of the following methods:

i. Crossed cheques should be payable to “Hong Kong Obesity Society Limited” and sent to Unit C, 3/F, Worldwide Centre, 123 Tung Chau Street, Kowloon together with the application form.

ii. Bank Transfer (Details will be sent to successful applicants)

Application for admission must be made in writing signed by the candidate and shall be in such form as the Council shall decide.

Membership benefits including, but not limited to, applications for Society sponsorship, grants and Cooperate Membership to other Obesity Societies.

Types of Membership

  1. Ordinary Member
    Any medical practitioner, allied health professional, scientist or technologist who has shown a continuous interest in obesity for not less than three years as evidence by publications, teaching or attendance at conferences on obesity, is engaged in work related to obesity and is committed to provide service as a member of the council shall be eligible for ordinary membership on the recommendation of two ordinary members of the company. Each ordinary member is required to take an active part in promoting the objects of the company.Only ordinary members are entitled to vote at general meetings and elect and be elected as a member of the council.

     

  2. Associate Member 
    Any person, corporation, medical practitioner, allied health professional, scientist or technologist who is interested in obesity and who is not qualified to be an ordinary member shall be eligible to become an associate member on the recommendations of two ordinary members of the company. Such members shall enjoy all the privileges of the company except the power of voting and holding office and will be required to pay an annual subscription fee. An associate member can change status to an ordinary member upon payment of the annual subscription fee for 3 consecutive years. In the event that an associate member wishes to change status to an ordinary member and there had been an interruption in the annual subscription fee payment, he may choose to pay annual subscription fee for 3 consecutive years again or pay the membership subscription to become an ordinary member.

     

  3. Honorary Member
    Any person so nominated by the council as a sign of respect and appreciation as a leader in obesity who has made significant contribution to the company. Such person shall be proposed and seconded by two ordinary members of the company and the proposal shall be approved by the council and subsequently ratified by the members of the company in a general meeting. Such members shall enjoy all the privileges of the company except the power of voting and holding office.

     

  4. Student Member 
    Any person who is engaged in full time or part-time studies for a postgraduate degree in relation to obesity. Such member shall be proposed and seconded by two ordinary members of the company and the proposal shall be approved by the council. Such member shall enjoy the privileges of ordinary members except the power of voting and holding office. The annual subscription fee shall be one-fifth that of associate member or such amounts as may be decided by the council.

Ordinary Members:HK$ 800 
Associate Members:HK$ 300 per year
Student Members:HK$ 100 per year
